Here is a photo journal of this past week....
On Sunday, February 2nd we visited a family in Dondo. This is a photo of Mom
and I with the parents in front of their home.
Also,
this past Sunday we visited this family in Munhava. The daughter on the
far right is the new seminary teacher for this year. Her name is Teresa
Marcia Machate, she is 19 years old. The girl with the purple braids in
her hair is a 15 year old cousin who is not a member. The father has
been less active but told us as we were leaving that he and his family
are coming back to Church.
We visited another family in Munhava and sat outside. Here are some of the neighbor kids who came to see what was happening.
All of these kids are gathered around Mom as she shows them the photo she took of them.
The
man in front is Tasara Makasi. He served as a stake president in
Zimbabwe for 8 years and now serves as the director of Seminary and
Institute for South East Africa. He is very soft spoken and humble. He
is one of the great leaders in Africa. The white man bending over is
Richard Hawks. He is an area director of Seminary and Institute and
serves as a bishop in Orem. We enjoyed the training we received from
these two good men.
The elders in Manga have been without electricity
for about a week. Without A/C it is very hot at night and hard to
sleep. We know because we went to a hotel. They received permission to
sleep at the Church in Beira because it has a generator.
On Tuesday,
February 4th we picked up Elder Kelly from Austin, Texas. His companion
was not told of his arrival and when we made it to their apartment it
was 11:15 PM and everyone was sound asleep. Elder Kelly had to scale the
pole to reach their apartment and after pounding on the glass for about
10 minutes was able to wake his new companion.
Elder Kelly on the outside balcony.
This good man is Miguel Fernando Fombe. He is 27 years old, married with two children, and was baptized on December 1, 2012 and in May, 2013 was sustained as the Branch President of Munhava. On Thursday, February 6th he gave me the Temple Patron Assistant Fund Form on behalf of his family and two other families. He has a strong desire to go to the temple and be sealed to his family. In his left hand is his copy of True to the Faith that we gave him last Saturday in a training meeting for the branch presidents. This photo was taken just outside the business where he works.
The fruit market we visit also had these two women preparing a goat !!! By her feet are the parts she has already cut up.
This
is Fazelito Basilio Vontade he is from Munhava 2 and has received a
mission call to Lisbon, Portugal. He is 23 years old, and the only
active member in his family.
He lives by himself in a small home without
electricity. He does not have a watch and his phone was without credit.
His branch president told me to meet him at 7:30 AM at the Church while
he told Fazelito to meet first thing...gratefully, we arrived within 20
minutes of each other. I help out by driving the prospective
missionaries to the various immigration departments.
I love you!
